Introducing

A Guide for Residents and Families

We are pleased to introduce you to AccuNurse®, an innovative system that will be used by our care staff to further improve quality of care. AccuNurse will help our nursing assistants stay current with all residents’ care requirements throughout each shift and rapidly get information or assistance when needed. Plus, it will eliminate the time nursing assistants spend on doing the paperwork needed to document the care your loved one is receiving.  Also, AccuNurse will help our nurses by providing up-to-date reports throughout the shift.

We are proud to be among the first long-term care communities in the area to adopt AccuNurse. Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about AccuNurse.

What is AccuNurse?

AccuNurse is a voice-activated, interactive care and communication system designed to improve the accuracy and quality of care we provide to our residents. With AccuNurse, nursing assistants can get up-to-the minute resident care information by simply saying “care plan,” then report the care they provided by simply speaking into a small lightweight headset.  Nurses can pull a wide variety of reports in seconds to proactively monitor resident care and staff progress throughout the day.

With AccuNurse, staff can request assistance or call for help in case of an emergency—without having to leave the resident and without creating any noise in the halls. As a result, our residence will be quieter and more homelike.

Which staff members use AccuNurse?

Most of our nursing staff will rely on AccuNurse to document the care they are providing.  Other staff members—such as therapists, dietitians, administrators, and the director of nursing—will get the information they need via the AccuNurse software from computers at the nurses station or their desks.

How do residents react to seeing the staff wearing and speaking into headsets?

AccuNurse training will teach staff how to use AccuNurse correctly without confusing residents—emphasizing that they should look away from the resident while speaking into the headset. Also, introductory meetings with residents and family help prepare the residents for AccuNurse. After a short time, residents adjust to the new system and appreciate the improvements in care that AccuNurse provides.

Does AccuNurse preserve my loved one’s privacy?

AccuNurse is designed to respect residents’ privacy and fulfill all HIPAA requirements. All staff log in to the AccuNurse system with a confidential personal pass code. Staff members never say the resident’s name when speaking to AccuNurse, only the room number. In addition, the Nurses’ computers are configured to meet all other HIPAA requirements.
